Why is my newsletter only in English

Protecting our French in Quebec is important. I felt it important to address the reasons why my newsletter will only be in English (my website and blog will remain bilingual, French and English).

  1. My goal with writing a newsletter is to help as many people as I can improve their health and their lives. English allows me to reach a wider audience.

    • According to Statista, there are roughly 1.5 billion people worldwide who speak English and a native or second language. In contrast, there are only roughly 310 million people who speak French.

  2. Why not offer it in English AND in French? I hesitated a long time about launching a newsletter. My schedule can get pretty intense and I feared adding another project. Doing it in two languages would require too much time, so I had to prioritize.

    • I could hire someone to help me translate my newsletter and manage two different email lists, but that creates a lot of headaches. I do it with our company Ergonofis, and it’s harder than you might imagine. Some people accidentally sign up to our English newsletter, but then get angry because we’re writing to them in English and so we have to manually delete them and add them to the French list.

The rules I set in place to convince me to launch a newsletter are quite simple:

  1. Write very short emails. No fluff, only valuable content.

  2. Only send one email every two weeks.

  3. Only write it in English to reduce complexity and the time required.
