Are you complicit in creating the conditions you don’t want?

One learning/discovery

Did you know that YouTube was launched as a video-dating website on Valentine’s Day in 2005? The idea was to create a platform where people would upload videos to introduce themselves to potential partners.

I discovered this in Ozan Varol’s book Awaken Your Genius.

One question

How have I been complicit in creating the conditions I say I don’t want?

- Jerry Colonna

Take a moment to ponder on the question above. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

We often go through life complaining about certain things without ever looking at ourselves in the mirror. Are we complaining about conditions we created for ourselves?

Lately, I’ve been catching myself complaining about being overwhelmed. About having too much on my plate. I asked myself the question above and immediately realized that I’ve been complicit in creating the conditions I’m complaining about.

I’m the one adding more work on my plate. I’m the one thinking of new projects while I already have a lot.

The good news is that it’s never too late to change directions, to reinvent ourselves. It certainly worked for YouTube!

One workout

3 sets with 1 min rest between sets

  • 3 x 5 directional lunges (with weights)

Perform a front lunge, a 45-degree angle lunge, a side lunge, a 135-degree lunge and a reverse lunge. That’s one rep (in 5 directions), complete 3 reps on the same leg before moving to the other leg.

2 sets with 3 min rest between sets

  • Max reps of pull ups (assisted with a band if needed)

15 minutes non-stop work

  • 15 Goblet squats

  • 15 push ups

  • 15 Torso twists

No rest between exercises or sets during this 15-minute block, but don’t rush it either. This isn’t a Crossfit workout where you try to go as fast as possible. Make every rep a quality rep, but don’t stop moving.
